Bear Gulch Technologies has been designing and developing websites since 1996, when our first client, Martin Klimek Photography, asked us to design a straightforward design to showcase his portfolio in static HTML.  In 2004 we began to use WordPress as a Content Management System and have implemented over 35 WordPress sites.  Most recently we have started developing using Drupal, probably the best open source CMS solution available.  We prefer to use Übercart for our e-commerce solution because it is a fully-integrated Drupal solution. 

Drupal

Drupal originated in Belgium around the year 2000.  It's most current release, version 6, has developed into a full-capability CMS.  There are currently nearly 300,000 websites that use Drupal, many of them very high-profile like CNN, the White House, Nike and MTV UK.  If your site needs complete flexibility, including configurable user roles, Drupal is the best solution out there.  It is our preference to use Drupal for nearly all of our new sites - even the smaller ones.

Übercart is an open source e-commerce solution fully-integrated with Drupal and is configurable to use a wide variety of payment systems, including PayPal, Authorize.net, LinkPoint API and Virtual Merchant.  

WordPress

First conceived of as a blogging platform, WordPress is ubiquitous with over a million working websites.  Over the last few years it has developed into a CMS that can also handle small non-blogging web sites.  It has a great set of plugins that can make it the perfect choice for a site whose content is to be managed by one person.
